Classical Sequences
Bach, Johann Sebastian
One of the truly great masters. Baroque composer extraordinare.
-
BWV. 208, Cantata "Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd!"
This is my first experience sequencing a piece with a figured bass part.
In Baroque music, pieces were often written to be played by varying
ensembles. They included a stave that contained the chords or principal notes
to be played, but which were to be interpreted and improvised upon by the performers.
Since these ensembles could vary from performance to performance, this figured
stave was important.
Hence, I have improvised the harpsichord accompaniment, giving these
sequences their own unique flavor, and my interpretation of a Bach cantata.
Incidentally, Aria 9 ("Schafe koennen...") is one of my favorite classical compositions of all time.
