We see when we looking up the Greek definition of bottomless pit in Strong's Concordance that definitely it has nothing to do with outerspace.

It is more likely a WELL or CISTERN. When we look at a well or cistern we quickly recognize that they have a bottom. This would direct us away from a physical well or cistern dug out of the land.

The meaning of bathos #899 leans towards the mysterious and deep things. This directs us towards the more figurative or allegorical meaning that should be understood.

Before we establish the identity of the bottomless pit we can summarize what it is by saying that it is something:

In our search for the truth about THE PIT we must also use the other Witness which is the Old Testament.

There are many other mentions of pit in the Old Testament. It will suffice for this explanation to use the principal of first mention.

In this case the first use of pit in the Bible is for the discription of a well or cistern. The last use in the Bible is likewise for a well or cistern. What we established in the last use for pit is that it is an allegorical or figurative use rather than a literal use.

When we explore the root of the word pit in the Hebrew it takes us back to a base use that also will lead us to allegory. Baar sc#874 the root word sets the well or cistern to be something involving engraving, as well as to declare, explain or make plain.

When we combine the 2 Witnesses we begin to see that The Pit is a place where the deep mysteries are attempted to be explained. A place allegorically made from earth but having no top nor bottom. A place where to dig is like engraving or explaining a declaration to make a situation plain.

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground,... (Gen.2:7).

With this verse we can clearly see the relationship between the ground in which a well can be dug and man who was made from the earth.

These are wells without water,... (II Pe.2:17)

This verse proclaims that these (false teachers II Pe.2:1) are by allegory known as WELLS. This chapter in Peter proclaims the ungodly and unjust to be as wells gone dry.

He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (Jo.7:38)

...; but the the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. (Jo.4:14)

The unbelieving person found without Jesus Christ the Messiah are, by the allegorical teaching of the Word of God, to be known as wells which are dry.

The believer in Jesus Christ on the other hand are to be as wells overflowing with water. They are referred to as having rivers of flowing water or as springs pouring forth.

We know that a person has feet and a head or a top and a bottom so how are they to be taken as "bottomless"?

When we look at a person in the literal sense we understand that they must, continually in an unending fashion, take in food from the day they are born until the day they die. In this sense a man is a BOTTOMLESS PIT.

In the figurative or allegorical sense they are the same.

And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;

Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?

And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man,

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, ... (Mk.7:18-21)

A man seeks out and eats food to maintain the physical body unendingly from birth to death, filling but never being full. By example in the sense of food consumption a " bottomless pit ". Eager to try new and exotic foods in anticipation of the joy of the senses.

The same is true with the inner man. The inner man seeks to be filled by knowledge in an unending lust for things not yet done or heard. The unbeliever is always seeking but never coming to the knowledge of TRUTH who is Jesus Christ the Messiah.

Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well (Pr.5:15).

..., or the wheel broken at the cistern. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it (Ecc.12:6-7).

The wisest man Solomon understood that a man was likened to a CISTERN and that the death of a man was like a cistern with a broken wheel.

The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the Lord, was taken in their pits,... (Lam.4:20).

For a whore is a deep ditch: and a strange woman is a narrow pit (Pr.23:27).

...; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: (Rev.17:1).

And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH (Rev.17:5).

Who is this MYSTERY, HARLOT? She is the whore! Who is the WHORE? She is the STRANGE WOMAN! Who is the STRANGE WOMAN? She is likened to the PIT!

Anyone who does not know Jesus as the BRIDEGROOM keeping themselves spiritually chaste for when they meet him is THE PIT.

This automatically makes every person upon planet earth at one time THE BOTTOMLESS PIT. Every believer in Jesus was once an unbeliever and in this unbelieving state THE PIT.

From the days of Adam until the 2nd Advent of Christ mankind has been unchecked. They have been allowed to run to and fro for knowledge.

...: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased (Dan.12:4).

And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth (Rev.11:3).

Biblical definition

Mankind has been allowed to be BOTTOMLESS or unstopped for the last 6000 years. Actually it has been the Word of God that has been sealed up.

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end:... (Dan.12:4).

And he said, Go thy way Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end, (Dan.12:9).

...Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not (Rev.10:4).

How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which is not lawful for a man to utter (II Cor.12:4).

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter (Pr.25:1).

For the last 6000 years since Adam the TRUTH of God has been locked away or sealed from mankind in general. It was not poured into the Bottomless Pits but rather secured in glory to be sought after and searched out.

The Pit was not sealed but the Word of God was sealed from mankind.

The fallen angels were delivered into chains of darkness.

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; (II Pe.2:4).

..., he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day (Jude 6).

...; and his kingdom was full of darkness;... (Rev.16:10).

But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes (I Jo.2:11).

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: (I Pe.2:9).

The Bottomless Pit has maintained the darkness of their chains for 6000 years. They run to and fro in search of knowledge which is spread thru out the land from the fallen tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Satan's kingdom is full of darkness.

It is Jesus who calls men from the darkness unto his LIGHT. This has required the effort of the Bereans in searching out everything within the Word of God to see if it be true.

And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand (Rev.20:1).

And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years (Rev.21:2),

And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should not deceive the nations no more till the thousand years should be fullfilled:... (Rev.20:3)

Up until the 1000 year reign of Christ, which begins at his 2nd Advent, Satan has been able to move through the bottomless pit at will. The pit had no top nor bottom it was unsealed. Mankind could take in and spue out the hate so eagerly taught from the Devil.

When Christ returns the Bottomless Pit, which is unbelieving mankind, will be sealed. The PIT will no longer take in and spue our the offense of Satan, the father of lies. They will be sealed and shut up, with the spirit of hate sealed and chained in the darkness of their own personal pits. They will no longer be bottomless but will have been sealed or shut up.

The false teachers will no longer teach. The liars will not be able to gather like minded individual together. The ROD of RIGHTEOUSNESS will rule. The desires of hell will be diminished daily for who can abide the loneliness of darkness in the presence os LIGHT, the Lord Jesus Christ, the King of Kings.

For without are dogs, and sorcers, and whoremongers, and murders, and idolators, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie (Rev.2215).

It would be for the wise to understand that today is the day to search out TRUTH hidden within the Word of God. Today is the day to maintain a close relationship with LIGHT. Today is the day to love thy brother.

Today is the day to be a spiritual virgin maintaining for the BRIDEGROOM in purity. Today is the day to throw off the chains of darkness and to enter the City of Light. The New Jerusalem will come down as a bride adorned for her husband out of heaven.
